it's a tight-knit community in this southwestern connecticut town. and even though you can't really get a sense of it now, it is one of the more picturesque places i'm standing in. rolling green hills and quite an affluent neighborhood, two and three-story homes. the thinking is people moved to this area because of the school systems. so it strikes a particular chord that this occurred within an elementary school. but then you also have that other side, the talk of this woman, nancy lanza, who collected guns, some high-powered weapons as in that bushmaster that was used in the elementary school shooting. it's not clear whether she attended some of the shooting ranges in the area although we know there are at least three shooting ranges within a 20-mile range of this area. one of the workers that i spoke to at a local business here said that she often showed her rifle -- showed a rifle that she had recently purchase and even brought her children target shooting. not clear if that occurred at those ranges or just in and around the area. atf and federal

it caused tens of billions of dollars in damage in new york, new jersey, connecticut. some towns are now on capitol hill today. they are painting a vivid picture of this massive damage done in nir communities. joining us live from the rotunda, hoboken mayor dawn zimmer. ufs you were testifying about how small businesses have struggled here. tell us about what's going on in hoboken, what do you need? >> part of my message is hoboken is very much open for business. we have fantastic restaurants and nightlife and shopping and washington street was not flooded. many of our businesses have been impacted by the closure of the path, 60%. some businesses are reporting as much as 60% down in business. my main concern is the 200 or so businesses off of washington street who are struggling to either stay open, operating in an alternate location or potentially over the next several months could be forced to close down. that's my focus right now. >> i understand there was $1 hundred million in damage in hoboken. what is the main source of revenue for helping people get back to work

you know, the court in a case called griswald versus connecticut know there is a right to privacy in the u.s. constitution. but it has never been explicitly applied to text messaging and -- this case and if a law like this is passed, i think you will see the courts looking at whether text messages are legitimately private. i will say one thing, it is clear, by the way, that the cops would have to get a certain much warrant to get your text messages. but here, this is a law that will force companies to save the text messages for an extensive period of time. >> does it make them liable? >> well, maybe american citizens don't want the stuff stored for an extensive period of time. let's say you were applying for a job and the employer said you know something, i want to see what kind of a person you are, give me an authorization for all your text message it is last five years. and you say -- oh, what? how many american citizens would want that to happen? this is a major privacy issue. it has never been addressed directly by congress. i think it is going to be enormously controversial. >>
